A&E’s reality series “Hoarders” takes a serious look at people suffering from excessive pack rat-ism — a seldom discussed compulsive behavior that affects as much as 2% of the population. It’s a condition that’s also probed in E.L. Doctorow’s new novel, “Homer and Langley,” a fictional portrait of the legendary Collyer Brothers, early 20th century hermits who lived in genteel squalor in a Harlem mansion filled with 130 tons of trash, including 14 pianos, decades worth of newspapers and a Model T Ford.

The video above, from comedy troupe Upright Citizens Brigade, takes a not-so-serious look at a self-proclaimed “data hoarder” — a modern affliction that didn’t exist in the Collyers’ days. The hoarder in question saves digital detritus, like musical instrument classifieds on Craigslist and Scrabulous scores. “Evites– I have every Evite that I’ve ever gotten,” he confesses. A Best Buy employee attempts an intervention.
